We are proudly supporting World Autism Acceptance Week
March 28th – 3rd April 2022 marks World Autism Acceptance Week and as the Mogers Drewett advocate for Autism I wanted to help raise the profile of the important work the National Autistic Society do during this important week.
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability which affects how people communicate and interact with the world and affects more than 1 in 100 people. The diagnostic criteria for autism include:
- Difficulties in social interaction (lack of interest in others, less or unusual eye contact),
- Difficulty in social communication (difficulty initiating and sustaining conversations, literal interpretations, unusual language)
- Flexibility of interests (adherence to routines, highly focussed or intense interests); and
- Sensory differences (over or under sensitivity to sight, sound, taste, touch, smell, balance and body awareness)
At Mogers Drewett we understand that for many people visiting a law firm and meeting a lawyer can be daunting and for people with autism this can be especially difficult. So, I have recently completed a training course run by the National Autistic Society that has enabled me to understand autism and how we can better support with our clients that have autism to ensure they feel relaxed and welcomed.
As the Mogers Drewett autism advocate I am now able to provide training to our teams to ensure that as a business we are autism friendly and mindful of all our client’s individual needs and preferences.
The National Autistic Society is a fantastic resource for information, support, training and guidance. Please do visit their website at World Autism Acceptance Week 2022 for some ideas about how you can also support this important week for autism.
